This wine displays a rich golden tone, with brilliant clarity. There are expressive aromas of golden apple, figs and ripe pear. These aromas integrate nicely with richer aromas of light caramel, truffle, and a nice complement of toasted vanillin oak. There is a very appealing earthy tone. On the palate, the wine is rich and full on the attack, encompassed by a full-bodied creamy texture, which leads seamlessly into the lingering finish.
I find this to be an elegant example of the diversity of our Monticello Vineyard in Oak Knoll District. The aromas are subtle but dynamic, offering strawberry, cola, cinnamon and hints of vanilla on the nose. On the palate, the wine is very well balanced, displaying a soft, velvety texture with a vibrant beam of acidity which provides a wonderful structure for such an elegantly framed wine. I find the wine is a little darker on the palate than on the nose, offering flavors of raspberry, black cherry, and cola leading into a long, smooth finish.
This is a deeply extracted, rich and robust wine. It is bursting with black cherry and blackberry aromas, with hints of cocoa and coffee. On the palate the wine has an immediate presence, as the attack and mid-palate are robust. The dark berry aromas follow through with consistency onto the palate. The tannins are big, but round and well-resolved and quickly round out what is a long, lingering finish. This wine will age gracefully for 20+ years.
I find enticing aromas of cherry, black currant, anise nicely framed by a lightly sweet and fragrant vanillin oak. On the palate, the flavors follow through consistently with the aromas, and the wine is framed very nicely with moderate tannins that extend through to a lengthy finish.
This wine is showing nice red-berry and blackberry aromas with accents of eucalyptus and other nice herbal spice notes on the nose. On the palate the wine is showing an exceptional balance of rich texture, fine-grained tannins and a gentle acidity which forms a nice backbone to the vibrant fruit flavors. The wine has a gentle but lasting and well-structured finish which should fare well with a rich meal or a backyard burger.
It will drink well now, through 2027. In its youth, and likely beyond, this richly textured wine will reward the patient oenophile.
